Location History

Some locations have been deactivated in the location table due to updates rather than updates that would be included within the location history.

This method is used to ensure accurate updated data is included on claims moving forwards.

The gap that prevents use of only location history is when then location is updated where not only the address and location details would need to be updated and accurate for the time frame but also the details behind the location setup which includes the remit billing to name and address details for the organization. These details would need to be updated/changed when name used in insurance credentialing as well as address associated with a switch of the group NPI or TIN is completed.

As this is consistent with the historical entries in their location table, continuing to use this method will maintain consistency and not need to update form script setup options. If this becomes difficult to manage we do have an option that would require a change to form scripts to use a fall back sequence from provider table to location table and could use a "default" provider with filtered entries to accomplish the accurate name with the applicable time frame for locations.

Question was brought up about the Tax ID number and how the PRN team handles this with the new location they bring on. The topics that were explored where the differentiation on the decision for updates contained in location History vs deactivating locations. The question if this could get rid of the requirement of the location merger on the BI side was a part of the consideration to see if the history could accomplish the desired outcome. Christina noted they did look into this in the past, but the reason they did not do this is because they can only change the front screen, they can not change the legal name (location additional). Darlene said they DO use it (location history) when they move a clinic, but if they need to change the Legal name and remit address, they have to open a new location.
